What I have found to work the best for painting plaster of paris is
acrylics. You can buy off-brand 2 oz. botlles for under a buck at most
craft stores. What I do is dilute them wih water and give thin "wash"
coats. The advatnage to that is that I vary my scenic colors gradually.
Example; I live in N.E. Pa,and the color of rock here is greatly
varied. You can have reddish rock within a few feet of grayish rock,and
all of the colors in between. Well,what I do is a few light coats of
mybase color,and then I can use diluted paints to slightly vary the
"rock". If you are not happy with it,dilute another color. Keep
trying,that is the best way I have found to learn.
