Plaster ornaments - how to seal?

Hi, I've been making some little plaster of paris ornaments and so forth
and would like to make a large sun to hang at our front door. My question
is how do I make plaster weatherproof? At the moment I just use an
acrylic sealer on them before and after I paint them, but I'm not sure if
this would be enough.

Thanks for any help Smile

You have the right idea. If the project will be used outside, be sure to
use a polyurethane finish. Folk Art Outdoor Sealers are available in
matte, satin, and gloss. Use your choice. Sprays are available, as well.

Hi! Not sure if acrylic spray will waterproof the pieces or not. Maybe
spray polyeurathene instead? (Not sure of the spelling) Should be
available at your local craft shop. Good luck! Marie

What kind of paints are you using? My suggestion would be use PATIO
PAINTS (found at your local Wal-Mart or larger craft supplier). It is a
self-sealing paint that can be used on any pourus surface. They work
GREAT- I swear by them for all of my projects!

I also enjoy plastercraft, you may want to use a plaster-like product
such as Outcast, that is specifically made for outdoor castings. I have
found it through Swanson @800-251-1402. Let me know if you use it and if
it works, I havent tried it yet. Good Luck!!
